Difficulty: level 5
Distance: 34 km
Max elevation: 6153m
Elevation gain / loss: +2551m / -2551m

Stok Kangri has been closed since 2020. This measure has been taken in order to protect the glacier which is the main source of water for Stok village. As of now, there is no confirmation whether the peak will reopen in 2025.

Stok Kangri is ideal for a first mountaineering experience in the Himalayas. This majestic mountain offers beautiful panoramas of the Karakoram and Zanskar ranges. The ascent of Stok Kangri is not technical; the main challenge is the very high altitude. Good physical condition and proper acclimatization are very important for a successful summit attempt. The shortest route to the peak is from the village of Stok; this expedition can be done in 4 days if you are already well acclimatized to the altitude. Otherwise, the expedition can be started from Spituk or Chilling. The Stok Kangri climb can also be combined with the Markha valley trek.
